Discouraged

July 13, 2011 by Julie 86 Comments

This whole “try to find a house in less than two weeks” thing is really stressful. I think Ryan and I both figured finding a place to rent in Ocala would be like it is in Orlando… a bazillions houses available!

Whenever we’ve looked for places in Orlando we’ve always had a handful of places to choose from and many options.

      for rent

Well, in Ocala, the pickings are slim.

Our “dream house” was falsely advertised and isn’t available soon. I found another home for rent on craigslist this morning that got our hopes up, until we found out that the couple wants to sell the house and will be showing it all the time and would kick us out if it sold. Bummer.

We keep refreshing HotPads.com, Zillow and craigslist hoping that something new will pop up. One of the things we were so excited about when we thought about moving to Ocala was having a nice home since our current living situation is… mousey.

We’ve discussed moving into temporary housing if we can’t find anything in time, but that would mean moving twice, which we’d really like to avoid. At least it’s an option.

I’m really hoping something pops up SOON. I’m not a fan of living in limbo!

Dinner

Dinner was yummy! Since Ryan and I were a little bummed about our stressful moving situation, we were both in the mood for comfort food.

Pasta!

Another noodle bowl!

This afternoon’s lunch sparked a craving for another noodle bowl, so I made us bowls of Carba Nada pasta with mussels, shredded Brussels sprouts and marinara sauce.

It’s amazing how food can provide real comfort. This warm and cozy pasta dinner definitely made me feel better.

Hoping to get into bed early tonight with a good book. I need some distraction!

See ya in the morning, friends!

I’m so sorry its rough for your right now…I completely understand how stressful that can be, moving on a deadline. Not a good combo!
Thinking of you both and sending lots of support and best wishes – I’m sure everything will all work out, even though it seems challenging at the time. You will prevail! And this too shall pass
That noodle bowl looks DIVINE, I must try some of that carb nada pasta…where do you get that? I’ve never seen or heard of it before. xyx

I hope you guys find something soon! My boyfriend and I are still living in limbo. We thought we’d be able to move into our new apartment last week, but the complex got the dates mixed up and put down that we were moving this coming weekend instead. We had to make several phone calls and live this entire week out of boxes. My poor cat is probably thinking we have suddenly turne into homeless slobs.

I’m sorry that you are having so much trouble finding a place. I totally know how that feels since I was going through the same thing last summer. We actually found a realtor to help us find a place to rent. She would send us listings and set up appointments to go view them. Sometimes a relator might be able to find places that you can’t find by doing an internet search. Have you tried going through a relator?

Good luck! Keep your chin up. You will find a place

I was surprised to read as many comments as I did before seeing someone finally suggest a realtor!! They really do have better access to all the places for sale “off the beaten track” (aka not online!)

In the meantime, fend off those mice and tell them to stay away, you’re in the house hunting zone!

    Hi Julie,

I know you are looking for a gym in your new town with Body Pump. My gym has Group Power, which is the same thing as Body Pump, so keep an eye out for that too!

I feel your pain! I had so many issues trying to find a place to rent in Charlotte. Luckily, my place came on the market the day I happened to be in town, and I snatched it up before anyone else could. I guess you just never know what will be posted today, tomorrow, etc! Good luck!

Julie – have you considered working with a real estate agent? When me & my husband moved into our current place we were using Craigslist and had an agent show us to one of her free listing. But then (bait & switch sorta!) she said she had some fee apartments available. The fee was 1 month’s rent, and while it hurt a bit to pay it, we would’ve never found our current place that we LOVE b/c it wasnt on CL. It may be worth the money.
I hope you guys find a place soon! Something will turn up either way.

Julie – Have you tried padmapper.com? It’s based on craigslist but in map form. (Don’t know if that’ll help you, but it would’ve helped me when we moved to DC from OH a couple of years ago!)
