Sadie the Huntress

May 17, 2011 by Julie 44 Comments

Quite a few of you have asked what Ryan and Sadie did while I was in Europe. Considering the fact that these two are best buddies, they spent a lot of time together. Some of you may recall Ryan’s first guest post when he talked about how they’re basically connected at the hip whenever I leave.

When I was away, Ryan told me that the two of them enjoyed many trips to the dog park, hikes at Weikwa Springs and double cheeseburgers from McDonald’s (her preference for the chicken sandwich was ignored due to cost).

One thing they also did? Went to PetSmart and got Sadie an obnoxious bright orange collar and leash set.

Please ignore the fact that Sadie looks like she’s 85 years old in the above picture and direct your attention to the psychedelic orange thing around her neck.

Ryan has wanted to deck Sadie out in neon orange or camo gear since she was a puppy. Fortunately I’ve always been at the store with Ryan and talked him off the edge by reminding him that Sadie is a girl and we are not hunters.

Well, this time his dad was with him at the pet store, not me, so Sadie came home looking like a little huntress. We took her to the dog park today and she looked like a genuine field dog… a male field dog.

Dinner

After spending a good hour at the dog park laughing at Sadie’s glow-in-the-dark/ DayGlo collar set, we came home to enjoy a dinner that cooked itself!

Crock pot chicken tacos!

The main ingredient of our tacos was taco-seasoned pulled chicken that we prepared the same way we usually make slow cooker tacos with ground chicken, only we used two chicken breasts instead.

We topped whole wheat tortillas with the chicken, lettuce, cheese and fresh salsa and rolled everything up before digging in.

Sadie was all about the chicken and since I felt bad about her looking like a boy at the dog park I made sure to share some of the leftover meat with her.

Heeere she comes!

Time to pack my lunch and grab somethin’ sweet before settling on the couch for the rest of the night.

Amen..Dogs were domesticated to first hunt then for protection. We have a big ol Black Lab, and my fiance frowns when I try and get him to chase other animals and to hunt….I dont even think dogs should be allowed in the house…but we see where my opinions weigh in as he is sittin inbetween us on the couch watching the Cubs game with us…what ferocious hunters we both have…

hahaha I love your comment about Sadie being a girl dog and you guys NOT being hunters! That’s the FIRST thing I thought of when I saw the first pic of her….she looks like a little bird hunting dog! So cute though…she can totally pull it off.

haaaaa that is such a funny story! Ryan wanted to dress Happy up as a football for halloween. At first, i thought everyone would think she was a boy pup (we had just gotten her 2 weeks earlier…) then i realized how CUTE she’d look as a football… so we totally got her the football costume. And we broke it out for special games, as well as the Superbowl!!! Happy now even has her own stuffed football toy. She a tom-boy of a dog

We just got Maggie a new collar too!! My mom wanted to get light pink, but my dad insisted that even though she’s a girl she doesn’t need to look like Bruiser Woods. So, we compromised with light blue. I think it’s time to break out the glue gun and add a big bow to that collar!!

My husband always wants to buy what I consider “boyish” type collars for our female dog too. This last one is black with fish on it. Although I like this one, because we call her Doggie Fish!

this made me die laughing, oh my God. upside, she’ll be easy to spot while hiking, orange doesn’t blend so well with spring/summer foliage.

I can totally relate to the “doggie fashion” issues. My boyfriend is bound and determined to get my sweet doberman a spiked collar to make him look tough. I hate the idea because it perpetuates the stereotypes that dobes are mean, aggressive attack dogs when the reality is that he is a big baby.

For your chicken tacos you’re talking about, do you prepare them the exact same as the ground chicken with 2/3 cup of water? Also can you put the chicken breast in frozen?
