Cookie Crumbles

February 6, 2011 by Julie 37 Comments

I bake for a lot of reasons.

I bake for people I love. I bake to exercise my creative juices in the kitchen. I bake out of boredom. I bake to relax. But most often I bake because I want to eat dough.

Ain’t so shame in the game!

This afternoon, I baked up a batch of muesli cookies, not bothering to do any real research into other people’s attempts at muesli cookies.

I made a dough using the usual cookie dough ingredients of butter, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla, salt and baking soda. I didn’t have any flour, so I ground up oatmeal in the food processor to serve as flour, figuring that it would make a great substitute.

The dough was fantastic!

The cookies…

muesli

Well, they crumbled. They held together as I removed them from the cookie sheet, but the moment I went to pick one up to eat, it crumbled in my hand.

Cookie fail.

At least cookie crumbles are delicious!

The cookies also served a purpose. They acted as fuel for an afternoon walk with Sadie.

Today has been quite dreary in Orlando and I think the weather made us feel extra lazy. After Ryan got back from soccer and I returned from spending too much money on fennel, we changed into our comfy clothes and have been bummin’ it ever since.

After eating several cookies, we got our butts out of the house for two walks with Sadie and a trip to Chipotle for our third Mexican meal of the weekend.

We shared a burrito since they’re the size of a small child and I wasn’t that hungry because I’ve been so snacky all day. We also split an order of chips with guacamole.

Then we came home and Ryan turned on the Super Bowl for our own little Super Bowl party for three (can’t forget Sadie)!

Off to watch the half time show! Smile

Haha baking fails can be kind of awesome because they give you a reason to keep all of it for yourself. At least it still tastes good, right? I also like to leave a half-cookie sized chunk of dough for myself at the end of the baking process. I don’t feel as bad eating it if it wasn’t big enough to be a cookie anyway

Oh, I thought of you earlier because I was at Walmart Supercenter and they had leeks for $2.48 — sold in bunches of 3?

I bet cookie crumbles would be great over yogurt

I would eat those cookie crumbles over oatmeal in the morning definitely…and in my yogurt for lunch….and on top of my frozen yogurt for bedtime snack! So many options Julie
What did you think of the halftime show? I loved the BEP’s and their special guests too. I want Fergie’s legs! The glowing shapes those dancers made on the field was really cool too!

Yum! That burrito looks so good. That’s good that your cookies taste good even though they are crumbly.

I baked your flourless PB cookies today for the hubby (mostly because I wanted dough)! I ate my weight PLUS SOME in dough, then had cheesecake for desert during the game;-) It’s been a snacky day!

I guess that’s the way the cookie crumbles! At least the dough was good! Have you had Starbuck’s muesli bread that comes in their protein pack? It’s so good, but I haven’t been able to find a recipe anywhere for anything similar. Bread intimidates me, so I haven’t been brave enough to experiment on my own yet.

I would eat those crumbles over oatmeal, in yogurt, atop ice cream or fro yo, or as part of meatloaf?! You could try any of those and see what happens! Glad to hear I’m not the only one who fails in the kitchen….

My boyfriend is obsessed with Chipotle and would probably eat it for every meal if he could. This means I eat a lot of Chipotle salads which is okay since they’re always yummy. I also think they put crack, or maybe it’s lime, on their chips, they’re delicious!

I’m far more of a cook than a baker, and I’d say about 65% of my baking attempts (at least!) end up as fails. Ah well, even though they may not be the most presentable baked goods, they’re still tasty! Hope you enjoyed the game!

    That is SO cute
It is the first time I experience someone who actually ADMITS that baking is all about eating the divine dough. It is the exact same reason for me, ha ha. What can I say – the dough just tastes SO MUCH better and more intense than the baked result!

I am definitely a dough monster when it comes to baking. I almost hate baking muffins or cupcakes because all the dough goes into the oven right away and I don’t have an excuse to eat half of it while the rest bakes. I eat gluten free and have had the crumbly problem many, many, MANY times! The solution: add a tiny bit (as in 1/4 tsp) of xantham gum to a regular sized batch of cookie dough. Add too much and it turns out, literally, like gum! But just a bit helps everything stay nicely together
